Before becoming a therapist, I worked for several years as a birth doula, accompanying women through pregnancy and, at times, pregnancy loss. My role as a doula ultimately led me into the field of counseling. It's an honor to walk with people through change and into new life, especially when that transition feels impossible. There is often some form of loss involved, which can threaten our sense of identity and security, but there is also often something beautiful being formed in the hiddenness of our suffering.
My time living and working in Bolivia also formed my work as a therapist. For one year, I volunteered with adolescent victims of sexual abuse at A Breeze of Hope Foundation, using theater and dance to help facilitate psychological healing. This solidified for me the importance of beauty and creativity for those rebuilding their lives after traumatic experiences. The power of art cannot be underestimated when it comes to integrating the human experience and the restoration of dignity.
Most recently, I worked for two years as an individual and couples therapist at The Center for Growth in Philadelphia. I gained an incredible amount of experience working with just about every kind of case. During my time at The Center for Growth, I also led a chronic illness/pain support group. After battling Lyme Disease for most of my 20's, it is important for me to offer spaces of healing for those navigating the questions and losses that accompany chronic conditions.
I am so grateful for this work; I consider it a great privilege and spiritual calling.
